Pre-foundation Studies

These courses are specifically designed to meet the aspirations, interests and needs of students with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Students on Pre-Foundation courses are actively encouraged to embrace all of the College’s resources.

With the added use of specialist vocational facilities and a well-structured support network, everything is set up to enhance confidence and aid progression within Otley’s adult learning environment.

We believe that hands on practical activities are crucial for success so our courses focus on subjects that do this. The courses also give students the opportunity of learning life skills that aim to assist lifelong learning, employment potential and independent living.

Bridging Course

This action packed course for 16-19 year olds looks at boosting self-confidence and life experience by gaining practical skills in Animal Studies, Carpentry and Horticulture. Progression can lead onto the Enterprise programme or Access courses at Otley.

Enterprise Programme

This course is for the mature (19+) learner and focuses on activity based learning (art, craft and horticulture).

The programme involves the planning and creation of different enterprise projects.

Springboard Course

This course is ideal for students who are working at entry level 3 and don’t feel ready to specialise in one particular vocational area.

Students will develop skills for independent learning, portfolio building, teamwork and employability through projects and practical work in different vocational areas including Animal Care, Catering and Retail.
