Recognition for Sport and Outdoor Education
[10/09/2009]The sports department was invited to the Suffolk Coastal Sports Awards ceremony that was held at the Felixstowe Spa Pavillion in September 2009.
Sport and Outdoor education has continued to grow at Otley over the last five years and as a consequence of this, Suffolk Coastal District Council nominated the colleges sports department in a category that hailed Otley as being one of the best sports providers in the Suffolk Coastal region.
Section leader for sport and outdoor studies, Paul Appleby, attended the ceremony and picked up a runners up certificate and the acclaim of around 200 guests.
“It was a shame not to win,” said Appleby, “but it was great to be nominated.”
“We received a big cheer when our name was read out at the ceremony and there was a real sense that the college is very well thought of in the region.”
“This was a great opportunity to continue to get the message out to the wider community that sport is a massive part of who Otley is today, and we hope to be involved in many more awards ceremonies in the future,” he added.
