[11/06/2009]
Otley College enjoyed a successful Suffolk Show scooping two gold medals in the garden design competition.

The gardens - designed by Otley access students and a joint garden created by Otley and West Suffolk College learners - won top honours for their creations called 'The Zodiac herb wheel garden' and 'The journey of life, the journey of learning.'

Otley reared livestock received a number of highly commended awards for both sheep and pigs in what was the 39th consecutive year that the college - based just outside Ipswich - had attended the regions showcase event.

Construction learners also competed in a number of challenges in the skills area and were highly placed in a variety of competitions.

"Joining hundreds of other local businesses, we were involved in nine different stands this year," said organiser, Tracey Collins.

"The show day is a fantastic event for Suffolk. It allows this region to recognise the strength of our collective resources and celebrate our ability as a county to be proud of our heritage and optimistic of our future."
