Breakfast Epiphany
[19/02/2009]Otley College is supporting a national campaign to promote healthy breakfasts.
The Farmhouse Breakfast Week - that takes place between the 25 and 31 of January 2009 - is encouraging everyone to "wake up to breakfast as part of a healthy balanced diet."
The thrust of the campaign is also aimed at championing locally sourced produce.
Therefore Otley invited five local companies that they work with to come to the college for a breakfast bash made up of their wares on Tuesday 27 January 2009.
The breakfast consisted of eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, fresh juices, bread, tea and coffee.
The suppliers who came to the college were Lings of Otley, Richards of Witnesham, James White Drinks of Ashbocking, Barnes Catering of Ipswich, Fynn Valley foods and Liquidine.
Head of Catering, Lucy Humphries, said, "We have been working hard to reduce food miles at the college for some time. We have also been working hard to create a more healthy menu, as well as using bio degradable cups, plates, containers, knives and forks, in a bid to become more environmentally friendly."
"The fact that we have committed to working with local companies is an important part of our mindset as it is essential to support the community, especially in this uncertain financial climate."
"The breakfast was dished out to staff and students and we were delighted to support this national campaign," she added.
