Colleges in Suffolk Raise Cash for Haiti

[23/02/2010]
Three Colleges in Suffolk have all been doing their bit to raise cash for crisis hit Haiti.

Lowestoft, Otley, and West Suffolk Colleges were all as touched as the rest of the world by the earthquake tragedy.

So staff and students have been raising cash to send to the Caribbean country.

Students in Lowestoft have already raised £160.00 by selling cakes and rolls and will be sacrificing something for the day on later this month to increase this amount.

Otley learners had a ‘Hats for Haiti’ day. Just over £260.00 was raised and another campaign will be taking place shortly where staff and pupils will have to pay to come to work in their pyjamas.

And West Suffolk College managed to raise £265.00 by collecting cash on campus.

Spokesperson for the colleges, John Nice, said, “We live in a global society so when any major tragedy occurs, all nations tend to unite and offer support.”

“What the colleges in Suffolk have done is a drop in the ocean, but then, if everyone does their bit by raising funds, the more chance the people of Haiti have of rebuilding the infrastructure of their country sooner rather than later.”
