Sport and outdoor education is one of the fastest growing study options at Otley.
In recent years learners have been trained by current Ipswich Town footballers, scaled the highest mountain in the UK, experienced an outdoor weekend with a member from the SAS, hosted and organised large sports tournaments for school students, experienced paintballing, windsurfing, and some lucky learners spent seven days living, camping and canoeing through the Ardeche in France.
Our team of enthusiasts love sport as much as our learners. And our courses and location make this a great place to gain qualifications before going starting a career.
Recently the college has had cricket, football and rugby pitches built. Also basketball and tennis courts are on site and we have superb relationships with outdoor centres in Suffolk and Norfolk.
Every summer, many of our students gain paid employment at Kids Clubs, leisure centres and gyms in an industry that has thrived – in terms or employment opportunities – in the last few years.
The main requirement for students is to have a real passion for these subjects as sport and outdoor education is a passionate environment.
In terms of outdoor education, one of our students is now currently working for Ray Mears Survival Company, travelling around the world so this can be the first step of making your dreams become reality.
Ultimately, our Sports and Outdoor education department will equip you with the skills to succeed in this vast industry in a stimulating and challenging environment.
