The learners - whose Access Horticulture course encourages business enterprise schemes - created a set of ‘deal or no deal’ boxes at the request of The White Hart pub in the village of Otley, Suffolk.
Landlord, Gary Gilling, approached the college having previously run ‘deal or no deal’ games nights at previous establishments.
Lecturer, Sandra Taylor took up the challenge.
She runs a course at Otley College that encourages youngsters with learning difficulties to set up and run small business ventures.
So for a small fee, the students managed to create a set of boxes that were used at the pub for the first time on 12 December 2009.
The money gained from this particular project will be spent on buying seeds and plants that will be used to create a small plant and herb selling business project later this year.
Sandra Taylor, said, “The College is always looking at ways of working with local people and businesses and we were delighted to help out.”
“The students really enjoyed creating the game for the pub and we even trialled the boxes out when we delivered them this week.”
Gary Gilling, from The White Hart, said, “In previous pubs, deal or no deal nights have been incredibly popular and it was great that the college was able to help us out. This isn’t the first time that we have worked together on a project with Otley College and I am sure that it won’t be the last.”
