It’s harvest time

[21/09/2009]
Preparations are underway for the annual Harvest service, ‘Tasting the Earth: Praise and Thanksgiving for Suffolk’s Harvest’, which will take place at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 11 October at 11.30 a.m.

Howard Petch, former principal of Bishop Burton College, Beverley, and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Farm Crisis Network, will give the address. Dr Mark Stevens, Head of Crop Protection at Broom’s Barn Research Centre will be interviewed by the BBC’s Anna Hill.

During the service, the Suffolk Agricultural Association’s Long Service Awards will be presented to those who have devoted many years to the industry in recognition of their dedication and hard work.

The service is open to all. No tickets are required.

Throughout the day, on Angel Hill, visitors can enjoy displays of animals and farming equipment.

‘The service in church and the hog roast on Angel Hill provide a real buzz for everyone and help us to celebrate the gifts and talents that make Suffolk's agricultural life so special and so important,’ comments Canon Michael Hampel, Sub-Dean of the Cathedral.

After the service, a Hog Roast will be available on Angel Hill. Tickets for the Hog Roast go on sale in early September, priced £6.50 (£3.50 for children 12 and under), from The Cathedral Office, Abbey House, Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds IP33 1LS (Tel: 01284 748720) or deans.secretary@stedscathedral.co.uk

All are most welcome.
