Otley Lecturers Go Head to Head for Award

[24/06/2009]
Two Otley lecturers went head to head at the Suffolk Big Skills Awards.

Both were nominated in the ‘Learner Champion of the Year’ category in a ceremony that took place at Ipswich Town Hall, last night.

Gaynor Marsh was one of the awardees.

She is currently in charge of the ‘Step Up’ project. This programme is being piloted in Suffolk. Essentially it is aimed at helping youngsters who are not currently in full time employment, sixth form, college or training, get back into education.

Stephen Kings was the other. He received his nomination because of his efforts in helping students and some Otley colleagues learn new skills, thanks to gaining a qualification on a brand new educational coaching course.

Kings was awarded the top prize and said, “I’m overwhelmed and it’s great to be recognised for my work.”

Marsh was also ‘delighted’ to be highly commended and said, “it was a great privilege to be nominated and the whole evening was fantastic.”

College spokesperson, John Nice, said, “We are proud of all of our staff at Otley therefore it is fantastic when they get nominated for awards.”

“Stephen deserves the recognition as does Gaynor. They both make a positive difference to the lives of students and staff at Otley and at the end of the day, that’s all you can ask for.”
