We have many years’ experience of successfully delivering teacher training in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Our main focus is to train those who wish to teach land-based subjects, however we have not been limited by this and former students have taught music, media and art subjects. With the introduction of the Institute for Learning (IfL) in 2007, the sector has developed and our teacher training has developed alongside to match the needs of those wishing to use their skills to teach others.
For those who want to dip their toe in and find out if teaching is for them, we offer the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) – a short level 3 course which gives the student an overview of the roles of a teacher/trainer/tutor together with some practice. This course gives the student the license to go solo in the classroom.
For those who wish to deliver training courses such as Health & Safety, First Aid or Occupational Health, we offer the Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) – a part time level 4 course which follows on from PTLLS. This qualification will enable students to apply for ATLS status under the IfL.
For those who wish to design and deliver teaching in their own subject, we offer both part time and full time Certificate in Education/Professional Graduate Certificate in Education. This is level 5/6 respectively and also follows on from PTLLS. This qualification will enable students to apply for QTLS status under the IfL.
We offer a progression route for those who have completed a Certificate in Education and want to gain a foundation degree in Teaching, Training and Development. This can then be topped up to an Honours degree, allowing students to gain a higher qualification for their own professional development.
