Come and study with experienced and knowledgably lecturers on our onsite commercial carp farm, ornamental aquatics area and a wide range of offsite facilities including fisheries and fish farms.
Course are wide ranging from ornamental pool design to river fishery management or water quality and angling. Whatever your area of interest, if your passion is fish these are the courses for you!
What we have to offer.
Otley College has a wide range of onsite facilities coupled with experienced staff and strong links with industry that really is a recipe for success!
- Fully functioning commercial carp farm producing 30,000 carp a year of our very own strain. Students are taken through the whole production process getting involved in every stage from fertilisation of eggs through grading and harvesting. Gaining skills required to work in fish farming and producing those forty pounders of the future!
- Ornamental aquatics area containing a wide range tropical and coldwater fish species from Red Belly Piranhas to Black Moors and Cichlids to Upside Down Catfish. This facility is invaluable for people wishing to go into ornamental fish industries.
- Access to leading game and coarse fisheries around East Anglia providing resources to practice the management of sports fisheries such as stock management, swim building and habitat improvement.
- Access to a local coarse fish farm where theory work and practicals on pond aquaculture are carried out. Covering areas such as pond preparation, maintenance and fish harvesting.
- Strong links with industry such as government organisations like Cefas and the Environment Agency as well as leading fishery management companies and fish farms around the UK.
- Staff that have a wide range of experience relating the whole fisheries industry including working for leading companies such as Interpet and the Carp Society as well as writing for leading angling publications such as Improve Your Coarse Fishing and CARPology. Our stuff have a wealth of experience for students to draw upon whether it be farming of Tilapia or Carp or design and construction of ornamental pools, between them they have expertise in all areas.
