Bricklaying - Diploma (Level 2)

Code: OCDI2F040
Level: 2, Type: Full Time

Aim of course

This course is for those candidates wishing to progress into employment as a bricklayer or mature students with a bricklaying bias who wish to achieve a qualification.

What will the course involve?

The course contains a mixture of theory and practical activity covering all aspects of bricklaying. Candidates aged 16-19 yrs will also study a Level 2 NCFE qualification and Key Skills in numeracy and literacy. The Key Skills will be studied as an integral part of both the Diploma and NCFE qualifications.

Course Content

The course has a practical bias covering all areas of the bricklaying craft and associated subjects. Assessment is based on course work and externally set examinations. Areas of study include: mortar mixes; brick/block laying; setting out; power tools and equipment; site organisation and safety; simple scaffolding; slinging and signalling. 16-19 year old learners will study an additional qualification (NCFE Creative Craft) which researches project management.

As 16-19 yr old learners study two qualifications, you will attend college for four days a week, mature students only study the Level 2 Diploma and need only attend for two days (these days will be decided by the Course Tutor to ensure that all areas are covered).

What can I do afterwards?

On completion of this course you would be considered for a part-time Level 3 Diploma or NVQ 2 in Trowel Occupations. As the NVQ is only assessed in the workplace, you would need to find employment with a company whose work covered all the required units of the NVQ.

What do I need?

This course requires a Level 1 Diploma. Applicants aged 19+ may study the part-time option.

You will be asked to carry out a skills assessment to determine the support you require to be successful on this course.
