Aim of course

This course is for those candidates wishing to progress into employment in carpentry or mature students with some site experience with a wood bias who wish to achieve a qualification.

What will the course involve?

The course contains a mixture of practical assessments and theory work culminating in an online examination.

The part-time Level 2 Diploma in Wood Occupations is studied one day/week over 2 years.

Course Content

The course has a mainly practical bias covering all aspects of carpentry and joinery, including 1st and 2nd fixing and use of power tools. Areas of study include: floors/roofs; doors/windows; studwork; stairs; woodworking machines; site organisation and safety; panelling and cladding; kitchen fitting; power tools and equipment; access equipment; preparation and assembly of joinery products.

What can I do afterwards?

On completion of this course you would be considered for a part-time Level 3 Diploma or use this as a basis for gaining an NVQ 2 in Wood Occupations. As the NVQ is only assessed in the workplace, you would need to find employment with a company whose work covered all the required units of the NVQ.

What do I need?

This course requires a Level 1 Diploma or 2 GCSEs at grade D or above, or equivalent and some practical carpentry experience.
